1. Register as a Foreign Entity
If your LLC is registered in one state and you move to another, you will need to register your existing LLC in your new state as a Foreign Entity.
You must keep your LLC registration active in the original state in addition to your registration as a Foreign Entity.
If you register a new entity in your new state, it will have no connection to your existing LLC and you will need to change all related business services (e.g., bank accounts, W-9s) to your newly registered LLC - which is not an easy task.
2. Register with Payroll Agencies
The payroll taxes withheld are calculated using the employee's physical location. Therefore, you must register with your new state payroll agencies.
These registrations can create headaches that balloon quickly if they aren't filed correctly the first time. For this reason, we recommend hiring someone to do this on your behalf.
We recommend:
- Hiring us! :)
- Working with our partner CorpNet (Disclaimer: we do receive a small commission if you use this link)
We know this is a sales pitch but tbh we really do believe it is worth the spend now to make sure everything is set up correctly and saves you headaches in the future.
